A statue

The Statue

January 2009

I watch the world with haunted eyes

As the place I know slowly dies

I watch my brethren fall apart

As the city I know gently departs

I watch the world with cautious stance

As the lights above me continue to dance

As the candle flame goes out forever

And I watch and wait for never

I watch the world as it is changed

As the city I know is quietly deranged

I cannot run from this impending danger

I simply watch as I become a stranger

In a world full of many minds

They hardly stop to look behind

To see the past is coming back

And the world isn’t sheltered from their worst attack
