This is simply why I wanted to go to CSSSA and who my favorite authors are.
From participating in the California State Summer School for the Arts I hope to learn more about writing techniques and styles. I hope to better grasp what it really means to be a writer, and to hopefully understand what it takes to have writing as a serious career. The writers Jane Austen and Beatrix Potter are two of my favorite authors, because neither of them followed the stereotype projected on women at the time. Jane Austen resisted her family’s attempts to force her to marry someone she did not love, and although she never did marry, she became a very successful author. Beatrix is someone who I can closely relate to, from her writing style, to the challenges she faced. I can only hope to become as successful as she did. When writing, I prefer to write short stories or novel like work, or occasionally poetry. After participating is CSSSA I hope to blossom as a writer and learn to embrace challenges and possibilities.
