For an application in which I was applying to a summer writing school, I had to write a monolouge (its sort of like a speech in which only one character is speaking) from the point of view of a guy. This is what I came up with:
I can’t forget her face as she told me we ‘couldn’t be together’, torn, sad, sick of fighting. Though to be honest, I can’t forget her face at all. I close my eyes, and she is there, smiling at me as if nothing is wrong. Though when I pass her in the hallway, she looks to the floor instead of to my eyes. My friends tell me to move on, but it’s not that easy. Every girl dulls beside her beauty, her talent. I’ve become oblivious to any girl who tries to flirt with me, thinking only of how she used to touch my hand as she passed, or smile coyly from across the hall. Sure, I’ve been on a few dates, but I never bother to call them back. Little things they do make me mad, like the way a girl would just assume that I am paying, never bothering to ask. She would never have done something like that.
Occasionally, I feel sorry for those girls, bouncing from
boyfriend to boyfriend looking for the ‘right’ guy. Well, I’m here to tell you,
that once you find them, hold on tight, because you never know when they’ll
just drift away.
